Publisher’s Blurb:
Following events in this month’s SUPERGIRL #14 and SUPERBOY #14!
• It’s their worst nightmare: A creature of unknown Kryptonian origin, more powerful than Superman, smarter than Supergirl and more lethal than Superboy.
• His actions will change the course of a planet’s fate!

Reviewer’s Comments:
Remember that really awkward moment from Supergirl #14? Well, there are certainly answers to that in this newest (and best of the series) issue of Superman yet. All writer Scott Lobdell has planning comes to the forefront here, and things really start to get rocky.

After the awkward moment where Supergirl enters into Clark Kent’s life unexpectedly, Superman is introduced finally to H’el. His backstory is introduced, and seems fairly plausible but when our hero starts to break it apart, the reader is left wondering whether this alien is really honest especially considering the physical differences between his so-called “kryptonian brother.” Beyond that, H’el is threatening the life of Superboy because he’s a clone, and is weary of them apparently. This really becomes detrimental to the hero but Superman is there to stop any harm after they battle temporarily.

Scott Lobdell is the best writer to come on this series, and is the creator it was looking for. He is giving this book (and the Superman universe) an awesome direction, and it definitely shows when this doesn’t feel like a forced crossover. It seems more akin to what’s going on with the Bat-books, and reading Superman makes me so sorry for Superboy that I want to pick up that series now. Kenneth Rocafort is someone I cannot forget because he brings energy and his great art style to every panel. It is fantastic to watch it unfold.

I might have to start picking up Superboy if this series keeps getting more awesome……

Classic Comic Review #2: Superman VS. Muhammad Ali

Written by on Apr 24, 2012

Why am I reviewing older comics?

Well because I’m still sorta new at this and I’m trying to catch up on reading the ones that I wasn’t able to read growing up.  Also there are many people out there who are either new to comics or are seasoned pros who may want to revisit some of the older stuff. To tell you the truth, these comics never get old. Besides, there are so many people out there who are reviewing the new comics. So without further ado, I give you this week’s Classic Comic Review…

Superman VS. Muhammad Ali

Publisher: DC Comics 1978

Writers:  Original Story Dennis O’Neil Adapted by Neal Adams

Pencils: Neal Adams

Inks: Figure Inks by Dick Giordano Background Inks by Terry Austin

The man of steel versus the greatest. This was an epic matchup and a epic book. I want to thank my co-worker  (who’s also a librarian) Mike Schau for putting this book in my hand and telling me, “You must read this.”

The 72-page oversized book features Superman teaming up with the heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali to defeat an alien invasion of Earth. Superman vs. Muhammad Ali’s wraparound cover shows a host of late 1970s celebrities, including Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball, Tony Orlando, Johnny Carson, Ron Palillo, the cast of Welcome Back, Kotter, and The Jackson 5; sharing close-up seating with Wonder Woman, Batman, Green Lantern, and other DC superheroes; as well as Warner and DC employees.

This was an excellent read and since there’s two editions (reissued in 2010)-one edition reprinted the original story at its original treasury size, while a deluxe edition (featuring a new cover by Neal Adams) included additional content dating back to the original book’s publication-now available, you have no excuse to read it!

If you have any classic comics that you want me to review please email me at taliadina@gmail.com. Remember comics must have been published before 2010.  There will be more reviews to come! Next week will be Avenger week in honor of the film being released so stay tuned!
