Category: Comic Book Reviews ![]() Rating: 5/5 Publisher’s Blurb: • Featuring the New 52 gallery of space heroes: The Star Rovers, Star Hawkins, Space Cabbie, Tom Tomorrow, Captain K’Rot, and Star Ranger! • Also introducing Jediah Caul, a disgraced Green Lantern stripped of his power ring, who is hunted for sport on a televised reality show!• • LARFLEEZE steals the spotlight in his first ongoing series of backup stories! What happens when Larfleeze, the ultimate hoarder, is robbed…of everything! Reviewer’s Comments: Giffen brings us into the story of Jediah Caula, a disgraced Green Lantern who has been placed in a planetary reality show. His task is to survive while everyone is after him because there is a bounty on his head. He gets spotted, and a young girl helps him. However, he quickly ditches her as he does not want to stick around too long. Next, Caul and Stealth end up together, and have been running possibly for the same reasons as Caula. There is an interesting play between the two, and unfortunately, one of them hasn’t been honest with the other. And now to Larfleeze. He wants Stargrave, someone he kidnapped, to write a Book of Larfleeze because he is upset the Guardians have a book but he does not. However when he picks up that there might be another Orange Lantern, he bursts out in anger to find out whoever is causing him trouble. But when he returns, he finds he’s been robbed. Keith Giffen does a fantastic job with this first issue. While I find Caul and Stealth interesting, I think he should focus more on Caula as he’s the more interesting character but I am interested to see how their paths intersect if they do. His writing of Larfleeze is the best part of this issue; he just nails it. Tom Raney does a good job drawing the Caula/Caul/Stealth story. His knack for sci-fi is evident, and he keeps the pace of the story going nicely. Scott Kolins does a great job as well. His Larfleeze is as crazy as any previous incarnation, and does not let up. This book has potential to stay, and I hope it does. Tommy Zimmer is an upcoming writer of short stories, comic books, journalism/media reviews, screenplays, and anything related to writing.
