Deadworld’s War of the Dead Collection

Weekly mini-series moves into compilation for November

Deadworld:War of the Dead, the weekly mini-series from Gary Reed and Sami Makkonen, willbe collected into trade paperback and released in November by IDW. The five issue series, running in August, was the first time the long running Deadworldseries was presented in color and provided an opportunity for new readers tocheck out the classic zombie comic.

The storyline is set where the zombies have over runthe Earth. A small outpost, remnants ofa twisted scientist’s scheme to defeat the plague holds out against the army ofKing Zombie. Their secret weapon are theLepers—victims of a bizarre experiment that left them with dead skin inbreathing husks with flesh that even zombies won’t touch. It is a war ofintelligence versus primal instinct—the will to survive against the cravingfor flesh.

Deadworld has been called by From the Tomb magazineas one of “the essential horror titles of the last 20 years” and picked byFangoria as one of the Top Ten horror comics. The recent original graphic novel,The Last Siesta, was nominated for the GhastlyAwards and the Comic Monsters Awards.

“The enthusiasm for the series was great,” saidwriter and creator, Gary Reed. “I thinkthe weekly aspect got a lot of attention for the series and it seemed to find alot of new people checking it out. Theresponse has been fantastic.” Reed said that news of what’s next for Deadworldwould be made shortly although the Deadworld trading card set from Breygent isset to come out in October.
