Reviewer’s Comments:
He has done wrong, and he knows it. He betrayed his friend, and will now pay a big price for his actions. He will be forced to commit actions a mysterious voice guides him to do. The first major action: corrupting Jim Corrigan’s life. Yes, the Phantom Stranger’s past mistake becomes what the Council of Wizards will use to control the rest of his life.
After being sentenced for his crimes along with Pandora and the Question (not yet at least), he is cast down to earth. He is told to wear the famous cloak which he transforms as time passes. However, he begins to understand what he has become after turning Corrigan into the Spectre. While the Spectre wants to revenge Stranger, the Council stops him from doing so. However, after that occurs, he loses one of the money pieces he is forced to wear, and realizes he will not be free until he loses them all.
Dan DiDio does an admirable job of following up on what Geoff Johns did in the The New 52 #1. He obviously has a handle on the character, and leaves the character remaining in a lot of mystery contrary to his identity being Judas. He obviously has a tale he wants to tell, and this reviewer will be quite receptive to it.
Brent Anderson matches DiDio on each panel and page. His art is fantastic, and really manages to capture different tones in all the different scenarios DiDio writes.
The end product is a great start to a promising series.
