Studio teaches the Craft of Comic BooksWritten by StephenJondrew on Jul 24, 2012Filed in: Comic Book News | No Comments »
Mon., July 23rd, Hamilton, ON, Canada – New comic book art studio, Hammer Comics, is offering students of all ages the chance to learn how to make their comic book dreams a reality. The studio was founded by Hamilton resident and professional comic book creator Mike Gagnon. Gagnon has over 12 years of experience working as a writer and artist for companies such as Marvel Comics, Dark Horse Entertainment, Jack Lake Productions and more. Courses are taught by Gagnon with guest sessions taught by his professional colleagues. “It’s a growing industry with huge market potential and opportunity for people to make a living doing something they love.” said Gagnon. “I see it being more challenging for new people to start out than ever and misinformation being spread. I think it’s important to help point new creators in the right direction.” Hammer Comics offers 6 week courses for adults and students in the subjects of writing, illustration and comic book production. These courses are designed to give students the basic skills and knowledge needed, and a head start toward building a career in the comic book industry. Personal one-on-one mentoring that fits your schedule is also available. The studio is also offering Kids Fun Activity Days in a summer camp style format that teaches children the basics of art and comic book illustration with fun crafts and activities. Snacks and refreshments as well as a take home fun-pack are also provided. “With the steady drop in funding for schools, education in the arts often falls by the wayside. Parents who care about the arts are looking for fun activities to fill that gap in an interesting way.” Gagnon added. “We provide a fun, safe atmosphere where the kids can learn and express themselves and parents are welcome and encouraged to take part.” Hammer Comics is located at 27 King William Street, below the Homegrown Hamilton Café. For more details, schedule a free info session, or to book a course visit www.hammercomics.com of call 289-253-5410. |
