The Superbowl of Comic ConventionsWritten by MQuannBoyd on Jul 12, 2012Filed in: SDCC 2012 | No Comments »
Day 1: This being my very first Comic-Con (not that I haven’t been to other conventions) I was jazzed to see all the sights and hear the sounds, and I was determined to do so in a manner similar to my previous convention experience, i.e, no game plan. That was a mistake. I should have taken the Mike Shanahan approach. Now for those that don’t know Mike Shanahan, he’s the ex-head coach of the Denver Broncos and current head coach of the Washington Redskins and anyway, Shanahan is known as an offensive guru who would script the first 15 offensive plays of the game. I should have scripted my first day out. I mean, I had all the best intentions of going to several panels (and having a couple of nerdgasms at them) and possibly getting a few autographs along the way. Instead, with this being my first Comic-Con and all, I got overwhelmed. I almost lost my mind and in fact lost track of time. So in closing, tomorrow Day 2, I’m going to plot out my day to insure that I do all the things that I can possible to at the Superbowl of Comic Conventions. |

After Twilight #4 ReviewWritten by TommyHancock on Jul 12, 2012Filed in: Comic Book Reviews | No Comments »
Rating: 4/5 Writer: Gary L. Watson w/ Richard P. Alvarez & Sandra E. Yates Publisher’s Blurb: Reviewer’s Comments: At the end of the day, this was a “setup issue”, which means that the purpose of this particular issue was to pave the way for things to come. These types of issues are inevitable and can often times leave a sour taste in your mouth. I’m sure you can all relate to the pains of waiting a month to see what happens next, only to be told “wait another month to see what happens next”. Not the case in this issue though. The flow of the story is still virtually seamless and the art team is still knocking it out of the park, making even the most mundane of panels jump out at you and demand your attention. Lastly, we are treated to a twist ending which I did not see coming. I admit, I was leaning towards giving this issue a 3/5, but the ending was so damn good it earned the extra star. Also, for all you big boys out there who enjoy the drawn female form(a group of which I am a card carrying member), you fine folks are treated to an eyeful. I’ll leave it at that. Bottom line(cause Stonecold said so): Though this was not my favorite issue of the series, it STILL gets a 4/5. A very strong sense of storytelling by all involved and a very unique story for the comics medium makes this series one you don’t want to miss. |
