First Look At The Cover To UNCANNY AVENGERS

This October, dive headfirst into Marvel NOW! as the superstar dream team of Rick Remender (Uncanny X-Force, Venom) and John Cassaday (Astonishing X-Men, Captain America) deliver high stakes action in UNCANNY AVENGERS #1 – sporting a jaw-dropping cover by Cassaday! No fan can miss the blockbuster debut of an all-new Avengers team featuring members from all across the Marvel Universe…a team uniting Avenger and X-Man alike! But following the devastating events of Avengers VS X-Men, can Captain America pull together a team that can get along for its first mission? Plus, Uncanny Avengers #1 is the first title to sport the all-new Marvel NOW! cover design!

“We’re no longer going to be locked into where our logos are placed, which has traditionally been the top third of our covers, and we’re going to start to look at our covers with an eye towards strong design and commerciality above all else, explained Marvel Chief Creative Officer, Joe Quesada. “What’s going to attract the reader’s eye, what’s going to make them want to buy that particular title? That’s the first question our artists and editors are going to ask themselves.”

Also! Every new issue with the Marvel NOW! branding comes packaged with a code for a FREE digital copy on the Marvel Comics app.

And that’s not all because readers will be able to take the Marvel NOW! experience even further by unlocking access to exclusive behind the scenes extras utilizing special augmented reality technology with the Marvel AR app powered by Aurasma. This is exciting bonus content that you cannot access anywhere else!

VANCOUVER (July 5, 2012) – Arcana Comics is going to have a busy San Diego Comic Con this year from July 11th – July 15th! Not only will the publisher be offering a slew of SDCC Exclusive content, but they will be debuting a lot of trades, which will see print later this year through Diamond and other distribution channels. Below is a run-down of just SOME of the SDCC Exclusives we’re offering this year, plus some of the books debuting at Booth 2415!

SDCC EXCLUSIVES

TITLE: John Henry: The Steam Age SDCC Exclusive Preview BOOTH: Arcana Comics 2415 PRICE: $5.00 / LIMITED TO 200 COPIES DESCRIPTION: John Henry, a former slave, wasn’t about to let some new-fangled steam hammer replace his ability to earn an honest wage as a steel driving man. He’d beat that machine, or die with his hammer in his hand. We all know the outcome of that legendary contest. In this alternate history, however, John doesn’t die in his heroic effort, but instead slips into a coma, only to awaken to his worst nightmare. A robotic uprising has occurred, and a new age has dawned – The Steam Age. Now, the only thing that can free the human race from the very machines they’ve created is John and his hammer. “John Henry: The Steam Age” is an exciting re-imagining of American folk hero John Henry in a SteamPunk setting.

TITLE: A Field Guide to Cryptozoology: The Strange and Fantastic BOOTH: Arcana Comics 2415 PRICE: $5.00 / LIMITED TO 200 COPIES DESCRIPTION: Drawn by the talented Mike Dubisch with writing and design work from Michael David Nelsen (SIDESHOWS, CHAMPIONS OF THE WILD WEIRD WEST), the field guide shows off the creatures of The Asylum films in spectacular fashion, and only people attending SDCC this year will be able to pick up a copy.

TITLE: The Inventor SDCC Exclusive Cover BOOTH: Arcana Comics 2415 PRICE: $20.00 / LIMITED TO 150 COPIES DESCRIPTION: During a time when inventors were known as wizards and corporations considered their kingdoms, emerged an extraordinary league of gentlemen who shaped the modern world with their minds, money, and machines. At the eye of the storm stood Nikola Tesla, a mythic inventor whose genius bordered insanity as he blurred the lines between magic and science.

TITLE: Creepsville SDCC Exclusive Previw BOOTH: Arcana Comics 2415 PRICE: $5.00 / LIMITED TO 150 COPIES DESCRIPTION: A group of high school outcasts, each alienated for a different reason, are thrown together as the staff of the school paper, but these kids just happen to live in Creepsville: a small retro-American town where monsters, humans, aliens, superheroes, robots, and mad scientists all live and work together. By Bill Rude and “Doc” Wyatt.

And there’s more… Stay tuned for more info in a few days!!!!

SDCC DEBUTS

TITLE: The Evil Tree DESCRIPTION: In a colonial village outside of NYC, Misha and her fiance, Daren, seek an escape from the fast pace of the city. As they settle in, Misha becomes withdrawn, suffering from bad dreams and depression. When Daren brings his friends to the house to “shake out the cobwebs,” little does he know he is setting into motion events started hundreds of years ago with the original occupants of the house, the Willam Family. Not only did the ill-fated Willam family die in the house one cold winter, but the house has developed a history of female occupants committing suicide. The friends must solve the mystery of the house before the Willam Family ghosts pick them off one by one.

QUOTES: COMICMONSTERS.COM – “A ghost story that will make your blood run cold.” MIKE CAREY – “A stark, powerful ghost story told with real verve and conviction.” BLOODY-DISGUSTING.COM – “The Evil Tree is exactly what a classic ghost story should be, Hendrix and Thollin capture all the elements of the genre with stunning execution. This is a perfect Halloween tale that’s bound to send shivers down your spine.” COMICBOOKRESOURCES.COM – “The Evil Tree is genuinely haunting… even scary…” SEQUENTIALTART.COM – “The Evil Tree will remind you of why you loved the movie The Evil Dead, with significantly less tree rape. More dead kids though.”

TITLE: Pixies DESCRIPTION: Joe Beck is an auto mechanic with the worst luck in the world. Joe’s been a walking disaster plagued with comedic situations where simply nothing goes right. Since the age of sixteen, Joe’s never won a bet, has been stung more times than George W. has with late night comics and his allergies have introduced him to every hospital employee within a sixty-mile radius. In Annie Hall, Woody Allen divides everyone into the Horrible and the Miserable. Joe unfortunately falls into both categories. He must now defeat the Pixies Curse in order to get back the girl of his dreams.

TITLE: The Praetorian DESCRIPTION: The island kingdom of Desperian has long been ruled by the dark wizard, Zoranthar, and his ruling class of loyalists. The nobles of the land have long held to an imperative law – blood in the arena keeps blood off the streets – and cadres of gladiators entertain the masses as temples of slaughter. When slavers deliver Valoriss Bladesong into the ranks of the gladiators, her path will bring her to the doorstep of Zoranthar and challenge him for the destiny of Desperian. The Praetorian is an action adventure tale of sword and sorcery, honor and courage, good and evil, revenge, and life and death.

TITLE: Koni Konfidential DESCRIPTION: Koni Konfidential tells the tale of Koni Kanawai, a recent transfer student who soon finds out that Hawaii is more than just beautiful beaches and exotic scenery. There’s a dark side to the island that is not seen in the usual tourist spots. It’s mystical and paranormal. Along with her new friends, Pete, Krystal, and Logan, Koni explores the supernatural mysteries at Honolulu High.

TITLE: A Ninja Named Stan DESCRIPTION: Stan Kidderick, Ninja P.I. is not really a ninja at all. And in fact, he’s not even a very good private investigator. He can’t actually use the sword he carries around and he only wears a ninja mask, which he never takes off. He seems quite strange, but he’s just a man who coped with having everything he loved in life taken away from him, by convincing himself he was meant to fight crime as a ninja detective. Yes he’s lonely, and yes he’s only hiding from the pain of his former life. But he’s busy working whatever cases he can get using his true calling and talent in life, computers.

TITLE: Champions of the Wild Weird West DESCRIPTION: The honor of a samurai, the mysticism of the Native American Culture, and a whole heck of a lot of Old West Action. When a fallen samurai is drawn to the United States to save his wife-to-be and her father, he is drawn into a plot much more complex than a simple rescue. Meeting up with an adventurer, his Indian financial advisor, a mercenary, and a former priest, they set off on a quest to save the West from the strange and unimaginable. Zombie Indians, mystical beings, and mad science are just a few of they must face on their quest to save themselves, those they love, and the whole of the Old West.

TITLE: Deadly Harvest DESCRIPTION: Core mining, the deadliest job in the galaxy, draws only the bravest, or craziest, workers around. Bumping up to asteroids, typically propelling at astronomical speeds towards distant stars, the miners harvest minerals essential to interstellar travel and commerce. Close quarters, dangerous conditions, and less than a half inch of polymer sheath stand between them and swift oblivion. When the Harvest Moon stumbles upon a goldmine dangerously close to a star, the last thing they expect to find is an ancient alien race preparing to hatch an infestation throughout the system. Armed with mining tools and sour attitudes, Captain Cyrus Layne and his crew must survive the horrors of space and an unfamiliar enemy to escape with their lives.

TITLE: The Book DESCRIPTION: En route to Italy, a group of American tourists learn of a series of DIY travel guides, nicknamed “The Book”. These unofficial guides are collected and updated with first-hand experiences by the travelers themselves. Different “Books” scatter the continent, telling of the best lodging, deals, and “off the grid” adventures from sight seeing to local folklore for anyone clever enough to find them. A local cult, practitioners of Sanctus Letum, the Holy Death, disrupts the American’s plans for adventure when they hide pages from the Dark Book, Shaitan, in one of the travel guides. The friends are lead down a path of secret religion, death, resurrection, and demonology.

TITLE: Becoming DESCRIPTION: At a remote university, an angry young student faces the harsh realization that he has nothing to show for years of study. When he threatens his professor to teach him something real, he is drawn into a horrifying game of life and death. Soon, he will learn that the only rule is pain, and that true knowledge only comes when everything you believe…has burned away. Written by Brooke Burgess — the award-winning creator of Broken Saints — with art by Dane Cypel.

TITLE: Spirit Window DESCRIPTION: In post-Katrina New Orleans, everything seems to be getting back on track. For former Detective Jake Rubio, the tragedy brought a new career as a shoe shiner on Bourbon Street and a prosthetic hand, replacing the limb lost in the anarchy of Katrina. One thing that hasn’t changed are Jake’s memories of an unsolved murder. When a larger mystery surfaces tied to the death of a local fortune teller, Jake will need the help of an age old inter-dimensional hitman service well known to locals, the Spirit Window. Who better to track down the person responsible than the spirit of the victim herself?
