Colonel Mallory finds our hero rotting in solitary confinement, at his lowest ebb after the dreadful events of last issue. An offer of employment may provide respite – but will taking a job like this one mean slamming the door forever on any hope of redemption?

Reviewer’s Comments:
First W.B. Yeats, Joyce, Beckett…Now Ireland has a new badass writer to reckon with. Holy cow. Garth Ennis awesome. It’s hard to describe that feeling when you hold a comic in your hands and you know that the writer is more powerful than you. You can sit back, let your eyes wander, and the comic turns the pages by itself. Autonomous storytelling. This comic is exactly that. It’s controlled with precision. It’s economical. Each image leaps off the page, and in this case, gouges your eyes out.

Ennis’ command of language and comic-turgy is just fantastic. There’s stuff in here that breaks narrative form, handwritten letters within the story, you know what I mean, the good shit. You won’t be sorry. There’s one moment when Butcher asks a question, and the next panel is ilke a film jump-cut. His fingers are pressed deep into the cop’s eyesocket. It’s so centered and sharp and Kubrickian. It blew my mind.

The story is simple, Butcher is held in a jail cell, and is taken in by a mysterious man who offers him an opportunity to catch and kill the man that violated his wife Becky. This issue features one of his first kills during his training.

Let’s be nice while we’re talking and throw out some props to Mr. Darick Robertson. His art really sucks you into this dark and eerie world. He’s surely part of the reason this comic works so well.

I always get a bit nervous when I read issue number #5 or something coming into the comic series in the middle without having read the first issues, and in this case, without having read even The Boys, which is the whole series that Ennis spawned this comic from. But truthfully, good comics should be able to hook you from any issue. And this does.

And to be more honest here, I haven’t yet read Preacher, which I just found out IGN called the other best Vertigo series besides Swamp Thing and Sandman. So now that I feel like a complete comic-dumbass, let me tell you, dear reader, that I’m about to crack open a new bottle of Jameson and get tipsy and catch up on the world of Garth Ennis, cuz this guy is a force, and I’m friggin ashamed that I haven’t found out about him sooner.

That’s all for now, kiddies. You best go back and start at #1, cuz that’s what I’m about to do.

Berkeley, CA – 16 November 2011 — This February, Image Comics and Shadowline will proudly present a new ongoing series from Kurtis Wiebe, the writer of the critically acclaimed GREEN WAKE and THE INTREPIDS, and artist Tyler Jenkins. PETER PANZERFAUST is a high energy action story with heart, blending the unlikely combination of the wartime camaraderie in films like Red Dawn with themes from the beloved classic children’s story Peter Pan.

To get a sneak peek of the first five pages of this exciting new series, readers need look no further than in the back of Nick Spencer and Joe Eisma’s MORNING GLORIES #14, which goes on sale in stores today.

“Peter Panzerfaust is a story Tyler and I have been wanting to tell for years,” explained Wiebe. ” It’s an action series set during World War II that blends in a fresh take on the Peter Pan mythology. There’s a real rich setting we’ve developed in this series and I’m thrilled to share it with everyone.”

“We are basically creating a book here that is a 200 proof concoction of our interests and loves,” added Jenkins. “World War II, brave heroes, mystery, romance…ADVENTURE in the old-school, old-fashioned, turn of the century, sense of the word.”

PETER PANZERFAUST is set in the city of Calais, the first city in France to fall to the Germans in the spring of 1940. A mysterious American boy named Peter rallies a handful of plucky French orphans, and they must work together to survive Europe’s darkest hour!

PETER PANZERFAUST #1, a 32-page full-color action and adventure comic book for $3.50, will be on sale in stores and on digital platforms on February 15, and will be available for order now in the December issue of Previews.

Also in Texas on the talent side of things was our CEO and main man from the Wasteland Brimstone and our Lead Inker Allen Chickering. Helping keep the ball rolling you had Jerry Cates, Kim Crockett, and yours truly Etan Wish. Check out some of the video we have up, make sure you subscribe to our Youtube Channel and check out our video page to see everything we put up!

Jersey was graced with Lead Writer Marcello Carnevali, artist Mina Sanwald, and everyone’s favorite character Luscious! Also we debuted one of our brand new comics, The Protector! Not only did we have book available to buy, but both creators were there signing! Writer Chris R. Notarile and the artist, his father, Chris Notarile were signing books and talking up a storm!

This coming weekend will be off the hook!!! We will be in super force at The Great Allentown Comic Con!! Not only will your ‘regulars’ (Brim, Mina, Luscious, Marcello, Etan) be there, but so will Sajad Shah, Terry Naughton, Peter and Angie Mayhew, Low-Ki, Erica Schultz, and the Notariles! November 16, 2011 – Los Angeles, CA – The critics have spoken: BETRAYAL OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is a commercial and critical hit! THE INCREDIBLE HULK and AGENTS OF ATLAS’ Gabriel Hardman teams with FEAR ITSELF: THE HOME FRONT’s Corinna Bechko on one of the most critically-lauded miniseries launches of the year. The first of four issues, issue #1 has started the miniseries off with a bang.

“We do a fair amount of comics here at BOOM!,” says BOOM! Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon, “And we’ve been pretty blown away by the excitement that this one is causing. Daryl Gregory, Carlos Magno and crew have been tearing it up for fans on the PLANET OF THE APES ongoing series, so it’s kind of an embarrassment of riches to have Hardman and Bechko come in and really deliver on a new miniseries. ”

While the main, ongoing PLANET OF THE APES series takes place hundreds of years before the original movie, BETRAYAL starts just twenty years before the arrival of Colonel Taylor in the first film. Taking place during the continuity of the original, seminal fan-favorite film, the feared and respected General Aleron finds himself at the center of a conspiracy that could transform ape and human relations. Along the way, his journey puts him face to face with…Dr. Zaius!

The first issue is already available at your local comic shop and BETRAYAL OF THE PLANET OF THE APES #2 ships on December 7th, 2011.

Here’s what critics have had to say about the first issue:

“Get your damn hands on Betrayal of the Planet of the Apes… I’ll definitely be getting my damn dirty hands on issue two.” — MTV Geek

“Science fiction at its smartest… 5 out of 5 stars” — iFanboy

“I suspect it will be a worthy — and possibly shining — installment in a legendary brand by its completion because the creative team’s passion for the world bleeds through. Do not miss out on this.” — Comics Bulletin

“I liked it so much I read it three times in one day” — Comic Impact

“Betrayal of the Planet of the Apes should be added to your pull list immediately.” — Direct Geek

“An irresistible story that’s not just for Apes fans.” — Pop Culture Network

“if you’re not a fan, this will make you one! 9/10” — Paradox Comics

“4 / 5 Stars” — Fandomania

“Hardman’s art is spectacular.” — My Comic Blog

“[a] fast-moving, smart thriller. It manages to pack more into a single issue than I’ve seen from complete story arcs from other publishers.” — Horror

“Gabriel Hardman’s art with Jordie Bellaire’s colors are a sight to be seen… a welcome surprise” — Comic Vine

“What makes this book so great is that it’s a logical predecessor to the original film.” — Primary Ignition

“Another intriguing ride for PLANET OF THE APES fans” — The Scoop

“the story is great and worthy of the original movies” — Pendragon’s Post

About the Publisher
12-Gauge Comics was founded by Keven Gardner in 2004 and currently publishes some of the most successful and critically acclaimed independent comic books in the marketplace today. 12-Gauge members Jason Pearson, Brian Stelfreeze, Cully Hamner, and Doug Wagner are creating new and innovative multi-media concepts for the company, including Pearson’s run-away hit BODY BAGS and THE RIDE, which was the top-selling black and white debut comic of the year in 2004. 12-Gauge solidified its position as a force to be reckoned with by packaging THE O.C.T. (Occult Crimes Taskforce), an original comic book concept co-created and starring actress ROSARIO DAWSON. THE O.C.T. has been featured on “The Today Show,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” “Access Hollywood,” and in many other media outlets. In 2009 12-Gauge began publishing under its own banner (prior titles were through Image Comics), starting with the company’s first licensed property, THE BOONDOCK SAINTS: The Comic Series — which made a major splash. The all-new stories by series creator/director TROY DUFFY exposed the 12-Gauge brand to an all-new audience. 12-Gauge then moved into the untapped market of country music with superstar recording artist TRACE ADKINS. In LUKE MC BAIN, Adkins lends his likeness to a hard-as-nails character in an adventure story of revenge and redemption. Trace went on a wide publicity tour for the comics; highlights being a guest appearance on “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” and a feature story in “USA Today”. Recently, 12-Gauge launched the high-concept series MAGUS, R.P.M. (from NYT #1 Bestselling author MICK FOLEY), the border drama ICE, and the critically acclaimed southern-crime-romance, LOOSE ENDS.
