Publisher’s Blurb:
All Hell breaks loose when the Gladstone’s Cadets take on their parents old superhero nemesis. But have they bitten off more than they can chew? Can they restore their parents villainous honor? It’s an action-packed “don’t miss” issue, with far reaching events that change the Gladstone’s universe forever.

Reviewer’s Comments:
This issue picks up where we left off in issue five, with the sons and daughters of today’s “villains” squaring off against the “hero”, Red Storm Breaker.

I use quotes around heroes and villains because in Gladstone’s School for World Conquerors, there are no real heroes and villains. They’ve reached an armistice, where all the fights between “heroes” and “villains” are staged, much like professional wrestling. These so called heroes and villains alike benefit from this truce by way of capitalism at it’s finest – merchandising.

So why are these kiddie villains fighting the hero? Well, that answer is two-fold. First, they’ve been reading comic books that make their parents out to be powerless, bungling idiots who always lose to the heroes of the planet. Who wouldn’t want to defend their parents name? Second, the kids don’t know about the truce. Oops.

This book seems targeted toward a younger audience, but it still delivers an entertaining story to adult readers looking for a slight twist on your standard capes and villains book. The art in the title is solid and has a manga-like aspect to it that seems oriented to many of today’s younger readers. The main characters in the book are of course the villains of this universe, but the storytelling has you rooting for them anyway. Not all of the villains agree with this truce of course and by the end of this issue it seems there may be troubled waters ahead for those who hope to retain the armistice.

For the paltry sum of three dollars, pick this one up for your kid and inspire a new generation of comic book readers – or simply pick it up for yourself. It’ll be three dollars well spent in a four dollar per comic world.
