The story of Busta Rhymes, H. P. Lovecraft, and the epic fistfight that they share.

Reviewer’s Comments:
Busta Lovecraft is twenty-nine pages of absolutely independent work in every sense of the word. The art depicted in this title varies and is technical in some areas yet simplistic in many of the panels having quite a surreal feel to them. The lettering in the book is definitely a new take on the craft and was actually somewhat distracting while still providing the feel that I think the creators of the comic were going for.

The book follows two characters. The first being H.P. Lovecraft, a well known author whose work is generally accepted as having racial bias and an Anglo-Saxon superiority point of view. The second character is referred to only as “Busta” but is apparently modeled after the popular rap artist “Busta Rhymes”.

The story takes place in Red Hook, New York and follows the evolution of social norms until New Year’s Eve 1999.

This is where the story takes a turn. It seems that the writings of H.P. Lovecraft back in 1925 are somehow affecting the present. Alien invaders threaten the planet and it’s up to Busta and his crew to save the day.

Black and white comics are hard to pull off and while this issue wouldn’t be my pick for the “Best Black and White Comic of 2011”, you can’t beat the price and it’s worth a read.
