Reviewer’s Comments:
When I was sent FISK for review I honestly had no idea what the comic was about. I hadn’t looked up the synopsis, I hadn’t looked up its website, it was 100% fresh for me. The reason I prefer to do this for first issues of comics is that I firmly believe that a good comic has the obligation to explain itself in a natural, smooth flowing order. I opened the review and saw a gorgeous, great looking cover with the eyes of Mr. Fisk somehow piercing through his sunglasses staring back at me.

As I continued to read FISK I did fine that the comic did a great job of explain the backstory of Mr. Fisk in only a few pages. It’s easy to understand the person he is and to fully comprehend the suave, somewhat arrogant individual he is. By the end of the 3rd page the writer had me sold into the story of FISK and I was eagerly awaiting more.

Now although the setup and premises of the book are very interesting I have to be honest that the subsequent pages of the issue felt slow and wordy. If I’m being honest I felt like I was ready the dialogue of a Spider-Man comic in the adventures of a Scooby Doo mystery. While I’ll admit there were some great action scenes in the issue I just found the majority of the book’s style felt disconnected from the opening 4 pages that had be hooked.

Technically speaking I think the book is well-written and the art is very good especially considering it is an indie black and white comic; however, for me the story just seemed a little too geared towards a younger audience. What I thought was going to my cup of tea ended up being coffee; however, that being said, I’m quite certain that there are lots of coffee drinkers out there.

Stephen Jondrew lives in an igloo in Canada.... Luckily, it's a west coast igloo which means for most of the year he spends his days in either the sun or rain -- its always one of the two. In the grand scheme of things Stephen is a relatively new comic book reader, first getting into indie comics when Project Fanboy was founded, and then getting back into mainstream comics over the last year or so. When you don't find him posting news or reviews on Project Fanboy he's usually found doing something with the Fanboy Buzz comic book podcast.
