Jason was completely on point about Marvel vs. DC cover incentive. The competition here is like Coke vs. Pepsi – Pepsico. is the father company, so the competition is meant to drive up profits by creating false rivalry. Its the same thing in professional sports as well. Sure there are a few exceptions, but generally everyone is a professional trying to get paid and be famous.
The general public likes conflicts and rivalries, so that often translates to sales. Red Socks/Yankees, Big Mac/Whopper, Team Edward/Team Jacob – give it a rest good people and know you are being manipulated to buy merchandise.

I think I have bought every #1 Aquaman they made and the stories just didn’t hold up over time. My concern about the reboot is that the readership won’t realize that they have been hoodwinked by recycled stories from the wildstorm/image days and their beloved characters have fallen by way of a similar design to those zany nineties characters. Superman – starts like an indie hero, who mimics the classic amazing fantasy start of spiderman – working class hero. A silly make shift costume like Kick-Ass except he really does have powers.
Wonder Woman will probably suffer like most heroines written by guys and exist under one of three archetypes.
And Aquaman will be Namor/Thor archetypal demi-god figure for lack of earthbound divinities in the DC universe.

They should leave Cable dead if he’s dead. His appeal, I think went out with the nineties.

One last thing: No more crossovers – globalization of comic storylines is too expensive on the reader, convoluted for writers, hectic for artists and it doesn’t win you that much more money. Rather, it seems to cycle downward, bringing less money to the table the more you put out the gimmick.

Thanks for the comment Joe. We’ll probably talk about this in Episode 67 that we record tomorrow. =)
