Comic Book Reviews - Souled #1 Review | |

The first is the back-story to how humans finally got to where the story is set. With a simple introduction page Souled does this easily. I am often critical of introduction and narrative pages as I feel they feel too “Captain’s Log” like and often feel as if the writer is just trying to cram in ideas that they can’t make flow with the story; however, with Souled I felt this was well placed and a good fit. The introduction page was an easy read but had enough details that made me feel part of the Souled universe. It helped me fit right in with the story. I also often find first issues to be drawn out and focused too much on introducing the readers to all the characters. I often find that the first issue can be largely different from the following issues because of this; however, I do not get that feeling from Souled #1. From the writing to artwork, everything is excellently executed in a way that hits the ground running. There are enough subtle pieces that illustrate past relationships (for example there is quick dialogue between ‘Gene’ and ‘Ashley’ that shows there is a long-time working relationship). There is also some subtle dialogue that shows that the ship is not state-of-the-art and seems to be thought of as something that should probably be in a salvage yard. Overall I was very impressed with Souled #1. I should note that although I did use the term “Science Fiction” in this review, this issue was also very full of action. I’m hoping the story continues going in the same direction as Issue 1 as it is a very enjoyable read. Attachments: |
